Developing a Search Strategy

Each of you will have field experience areas that are slightly different.

Use these strategies to search for your own area.

Step 1: Identify your field experience area

  • Example: I am volunteering at a community clinic that treats adolescents with eating disorders

Step 2: Identify the key concepts or ideas within your field experience area

  • Concept 1: Treats
  • Concept 2: Adolescents
  • Concept 3: Eating Disorders

Where you are working or volunteering may also be an important concept to include in your search.

Step 3: List alternative keywords and synonyms for each concept

Treats Adolescents Eating Disorders
Treatment Teenagers Bulimia Nervosa
Psychotherapy High School Students Anorexia Nervosa
Medication Youth Binge Eating
Nutritional Counseling Young Adults Disordered Eating
